Let the DJ Play - TT4

Here is the latest mix-disc. It starts with a great tune from B.A.D. called V13. I love this song and never play it often. This is, however, the only classic on the disc. The rest of the disc are new bands I'm listening to currently or just really diggin, currently. Mostly, indie sounding music with some noise kicked in. One of my favs is a song by the White Rabbits doing a song that sounds like Man Man doing Ghost Town (track 14).

Track 17 is by a kid from San Fran by the name of Ty Segall, and the song I chose is called Pretty Baby - this kid is F*kN great! I can't scream it enough! Mrs. TommyzTunes thinks he's too loud! I included two videos below of him and just missed his show at the Smell...
http://www.myspace.com/tysegall - another plug for the kid! He's on tour. Buy his merch!
For all you LA folk, he'll be at the Echo with Shonen Knife on November 2!

I am sorry that I am too lazy to add the list of tunes and if you care enough or hear something you really like, text me and I will tell you!

MJ Tribute & Jill Munroe

We all know how much he loved kids and well, kids loved him too!

A million years ago, I too was one of those kids, but preferred the good sweet lovin' of Farrah Fawcett-Majors, growl.
( Rest In Peace Jill Munroe )

Closest thing I can come up with, as a tribute to a guy that hated his reflection:

Dark Wave - Mixtape 3 - The Softcore

Does your mother know you are listening? Does she? Do you think life has meaning?

Some rare tunes to the usual pop darkness lies between your ears on this mix. I tried to avoid the cliche like the first tune from Maurice & the Cliches, doing Soft Core or or or or... You don't want no bloody literature/ you just like the pictures...

Not dark enough for you? You will be swimming in it by the end of this charmer.

Straight out of the Gargoyle Lounge - Fad Gadget's Collapsing New People. Stay awake all night but never see the stars and sleep all day. That is how you get pasty, goth kid.

Take two from the Gargoyle Lounge - Ministry's Everday is Halloween. How could I not put this in? Why can't I live a life for me? Why should I take the abuse that's served? Word!

A happy tune from Love and Rockets called Mirror People. I wish I could be nothing at all...

Then, perhaps the scariest song on the tape. Surprise, Uh Huh!

Uber Super Duber favorite tune from the Stranglers- The Man They Love to Hate. His father was a fighter and he practised on his son. His mother was just some furniture who'd lost the will to run. Heavy duty dose of reality. Now we know why you are into the dark wave.

Won't you dance with me to the Lords of the New Church? Come on stranger there is just one last dance. I noticed Stiv is whispering under the lyrics...check it! Maybe it's in my head...creepy!

Gargoyle Lounge regular number three here, Chameleons doing In Shreds. I need you tonight! That opening riff gets me every time. The noise in my head! You count your blessings while they're there, Amen brother chameleon! It seems to me, you've become part of the machinery! Machinery! Machinery!

No, it's not Interpol. It's their dirty old vater Josef K. It's Kinda Funny how much they sound like Interpol or Interpol sounds like... Enjoy!

Dig this next tune from the Jesus and Mary Chain, The Hardest Walk. I remember Jed the Fish from Kroq said their name the best. I can hear it in my head but I can't type it for you. Think.
Is it me? Famous exiting question from a to b to see!

Okay, a pop tune. Sorry, I can't quit you Reptile from the Church. Don't worry, it will slither away, quick enough like a real reptile! And this next tune you may remember from the best Emilio Estevez movie ever made! No it's not Rated X, the other movie he made. Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole, not like you! Yes, Burning Sensations shows itself again doing the incredible cover of the Modern Lovers. Jonathan Richman rocks! If you don't own any of the Modern Lovers, get it here: http://goldenbrown77.blogspot.com/2009/03/jonathan-richman-modern-lovers-23-great.html

A must!!!

Okay, who snuck in Rik L Rik into this comp? Me, of course~ Friggin love The Outback! I saw you runnin out in the outback. I call to you but you didn't look back... so sad.

Yes. You've waited patiently for this one and here you go! Shadowplay from the greatest band from Manchester, Warsaw or more commonly known, Joy Division. Have you seen Control, yet?
It's worth a rental view. So long Ian and thank you! Waitiing for you, waiting for you!

Another dead rockstar you say, no! Adam isn't dead. I actually heard he is touring or going to. Here is a not so popular tune of his, called Never Trust A Man (With Egg On His Face). It kinda of flows with the Outback and the outer space theme going on, maybe. She heard the voices calling her from outer space.

O' Classic Gentlemen! Now, get down and praise thee with not one, not two of the three shadows but all three! How often does this occur on comp goth discs? Never. I tell you. Sit back and listen to the sooth of Bauhaus doing The Three Shadows Part 1,2 & 3. I will awlays exist because I always exist... Are you thirsty now?

Yes, the Cure is here doing Sinking. The last track off The Head on the Door disc. You must find out who you are! Blessings to you! I am slowing down as the years go by, I am sinking. So, I trick myself like everbody else. Man, ain't that the truth.

And finally the last track- Tones on Tail doing Real Life. Give me something for nothing, okay!

All the random noise came from an old tv show called New Wave Theater:

Fly low and avoid the radar! Enjoy!

The New Wave Mix 1 - Truly Dazzling!

Julie thinks I am truly dazzling :)

This mix is for all you Kroq 80s fans!

Okay, here is a mix of just some flat out favs of mine from the new wave Kroq era. 21 tracks to roq your soqs!

Aztec Camera starts this mix with probably the best one hit wonder hit Oblivious. I could not leave the eighties without this song! I see you crying and I want to kill your friends!.

20/20 Yellow Pills, any mix missing this is missing this song. When I was a kid, I thought the words were I am abused, instead of yellow pills. I am abuse! Swear by Tim Scott - Swear that you love me S-W-E-A-R! Felony by the Fanatics, one of two Valley Girl tunes. I am a fan; I am a fanatic!

See You On the Other Side by Brian Briggs was a long sought after tune many years ago for me. I found it finally on a CD called the Obscurity Files and boy, is this song obscure. I love it! Franky and Moe road their scooters to the corner... I was always Franky... Good-Bye Franky! See you on the other side...Hopeless (neu)romantic.

Again the man who lusts for life, Iggy doing his best on Run like a Villain! Rings on your fingers and bells on your toes, run! I'm a thumbs-up guy! Nights like this... appeal to me!

The true romantic, Lloyd Cole doing, of course, Perfect Skin. I can't tire of this song... although I truly love Speedboat. Shame on you! The moral of this song, there never has been one!

Number two from the Valley Girl Soundtrack, the ever deep and beautiful Eyes of a Stranger from the Payolas. Could I touch you, to see if you are real? Followed by the Peter Gabriel song, Games Without Frontiers, love that whistling tune. She is so fu....? Popular? What does he say?

Always the sun. Yes. Always the Sun by the Stranglers flows effortlessly through your speakers next. Yes. I have a list of Stranglers tunes that adore, but this one fits best in the New Wave mix, thanks. And for your effort, I give you The Once Over twice from X, next. Exit. Exmas. Words that start with... I'm sure I've been given the once over thrice or what is eight times over?

Now, murder that fool and here is a lesson from the pretentious Sting and his band of happy security guards, when they were flawless. Murder By Numbers from the Police is next to dine on your Mr. Hyde inhibitions. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Another tune I try to tire of, and can't. Belly of Whale from Burning Sensations, the good burn not the morning after kind. Somewhere the sun is shining and it's probably in L.A.

An L.A. band "straight" from the New Wave and perhaps a personal classic fav is Jet Fighter by the Three O'Clock! That's what I am cuz tanks go too slow. Secrets out, I wanted to fly fighter planes as a kid. And that was before Top Gun; I know what you are thinking Goose.

I named my cat from this next song, Making Plans for Nigel by XTC. Really, that cat (Nigel) I had to make plans where to keep him and move him all round. I moved about a bit in the early nineties and had to keep finding him homes. Be careful what you name you pets or your kids for that matter. Nigel, Nigel, Nigel...

This next tune is special too. Neil, Jack and Me by King Crimson were all friends of mine. The insane (Seine) alone at four a.m. Absent lovers, Absent lovers... story of my youth.

I didn't know this next song was about a girl who wanted to be a boy or a boy wanting to be a Girl Called Johnny. The Waterboys were doing it way before Adam Sandler and I love the horn in this song. You can do it Waterboy!

Ex-singer of the Bodysnatchers & Specials AKA, Rhoda Dakar leads this next classic: Sign of the Times by the Belle Stars. More to come!

Dirty, dirty. Dirty Creatures from New Zealand's homegrown Split Enz follows. The creature don't mess around... I don't want to sail tonight. Remember the video of the guy on the pond/lake? Reminded me of Jason at Camp Crystal Lake...

Had to do it. Raise your hand if owned Rio from Duran Duran. Yep. Most of you. How many of you got to side two track four? Didn't even know this gem was hiding there, did ya? The Chauffeur dances across your lobe on this, the last track of Rio. Sing Blue Silver! The sun drips down bedding heavy behind the front of your dress - all shadowy lined! Nice imagery LeBon!

And to end this truly dazzling New Wave mix tape, Icehouse doing We Can Get Together! I just like talking to you and maybe we can get together again!

enjoy!

First Post - Greed Isn't Going Anywhere! Minnnne!

Well, here it is, finally some of you might say.

The first mix for you to enjoy is self indulgent and I didn't consider anyone's feelings on this one, sorry. Give the finger to the rock n roll singer, as he dances on your paycheck!

It starts with a vinyl release from Beck and Sonic Youth- I chose the Sonic Youth version of Beck's Pay No Mind. This goes into a tripped-up version of Philosophy of the World by The Shaggs (skinny peoples want what the fat peoples got), into an ultimate fav of mine by the sultan Leonard Cohen, Who By Fire. A strange clip from the past follows named Ginger from a six track disc I found many years ago by the Lilys. Next three come from a comp by Iggy named Gimmie Shelter- Mudhoney-Hardon for War & Radio Vago-Intro/Yearly Note (I saw these girls years ago at the smell in LA, great show!) & finally, Pleasure Forever-King Cobra in the Guts of Valhalla. A tune by Magazine called I Want to Burn Again (not a Rasta tune). Followed by the man himself, the igster doing a song called partytime off his new (jazz?) disc, solid Iggy.

The next is a cover song by Hot Chip & Peter Gabriel doing the Vampire Weekend song Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, where they sing about Peter Gabriel. And this one is followed by Elvis Perkins (real name & son of the Psycho Anthony Perkins) and Shampoo is taken from his latest disc. Next, a montage from the late great Joe Strummer, and his song Wellesden from Cricklewood. I wanted to end the mixtape right here but I had the following three tunes to conclude: Hot Chip again doing a great cover of Joy Division's Transmission (dance, dance, dance to the radio!); Lily Allen along with Mick Jones covering Straight to Hell, beautifully done! and to conclude, the New Orleans famous Preservation Hall Band play for you Choko Mo Feel No Hey, off their newest release.

Enjoy this mix- burn it & share it!!!!

Life is too short to listen to bad music and
Life is too short to listen to all the good music,
so get off your ass and dance!
